We're hiring: Junior Internet Software Developer

Salary £19-25K depending on experience, excellent pension scheme

If you are interested in this role, please apply to us directly.

Tribal has considerable experience in web-based applications, including content management systems, bespoke online software, and more recently internet of things (IoT) platforms.

With our continued expansion into this exciting new space, we are looking for a Junior Developer to join our team in our office in Reading.

The Role

The role will entail development using PHP and JavaScript, combined with database work with MySQL and MongoDB.

We build most applications on our open source Zenario platform, and on Linux. Developments are modular, to fit with our approach of building fast, scalable and dependable applications.

The role is based in our office in central Reading, conveniently located for public transport.

You will report to Tribal's Project Manager, and should expect to learn a range of skills quickly. Our technical working environment is quite structured, with task-based systems to organise work, and use of Subversion for software version control.

The Candidate

We're looking for a candidate who has a natural enthusiasm for leading-edge internet development.

You will be able to demonstrate skills in at least two of the following areas:

  • writing well-structured PHP programs
  • writing JavaScript (possibly with jQuery or similar) to create browser-based interactivity
  • experience working with MySQL and writing queries of medium complexity (e.g. JOINs, sub-queries).

In addition, any of the following would be considered a bonus:

  • experience working with MongoDB
  • experience of Linux system administration at a simple level
  • skill with writing CSS to style web pages
  • experience writing applications for Arduino, Raspberry Pi or similar.

We expect you to be degree-qualified, but will consider a person who has a natural talent with software and has reached an advanced level in this area.

You should be logical and methodical in your approach. Good communication skills (both written and verbal) are essential. The role is based in Reading and not suitable for remote working, so only candidates able to reside in the UK will be considered.

As this is junior position, we will consider as experience any work you have done for personal projects, provided they show skill and determination to reach objectives, as well as in-work experience.

The Reward

The position comes with an attractive salary, a 5%/5% contributory pension scheme, 20 days' holiday rising to 25, and the chance to work with a skilled team in the most leading-edge area of the internet.
